If one of your real life friends was being downright annoying on a site you run would you ban them or how would you get them to sort out their problems so the forum can go back to the way things were before he or she were annoying and/or rule breaking?

I would just notify them via PM or in real life, depending on which comes first or decision. Then I would ban them for about a week. Then after they get un-banned, or if I see them in person first, tell them why you banned them and if they continue just ban them permanently.

Just tell them to stop irl. If they don't, a ban will have to be in place.

Follow the exact same rules you would for everyone else. I hate when admins let someone get away with something because they know them, whether it be in real life or only online everyone should get the same treatment.

Same with me. I would try and avoid discussing with them on a site such as Facebook, or even IRL about their ban. I would tell them to take it up with board management. I will do that with each and every person. Everyone follows the same rules and goes through the same warning, rules and banning system.

I agree with death180 100%

Everyone should receive the same treatment and this goes for friends as well as staff members that feel they are above the board rules.

I completely agree with this statement. Why would you treat a person you know in real lief any different from someone you've met online? You didn't tell them before they signed up that they would be exempt from the rules and they shouldn't be. You'll probably end up losing members because of your bias if you decide to treat your real life friends any differently from other members of your site.

I agree with this all members should be treated the same does not matter if they are friends or not

Nobody is above the rules. Don't make exceptions for anyone if they are breaking rules they should get the same response that anyone else would! Otherwise you may start to lose respect of the members and things will rapidly spiral out of control

I think the rules are the same for everyone but yes you should tell them in real life

It would be easier to deal with a friend in real life considering it will be easiest to let them down. Same rules apply to everyone, but I guess it never hurts to be a little bit more lenient with them as usual.

I treat everyone the same. If my girlfriend was to spam, she would be banned just like everyone else. This same thing would apply to family members or close friends.

They agree to follow the same terms of use. It does not change based on how they relate to me.

Agreed. I'm not afraid to ban anybody, which is a very important part of being a forum owner.

I would be wondering just what exactly is your definition of friend if they would do things to you that you don't approve of. Real friends don't intentionally hurt you nor do they make threats when you make decisions they don't agree to.

I recall one instance when an admin buckled under pressure form a RL friend who so happen to be the person hosting the board. It was either she went or I get fired. He choose to fire me because I wouldn't stand for moderators breaking the very rules they were hired to enforce which resulted in his entire community abandoning him. The best part was him blaming me for everything when it was his choices that led to all that happening not me.

I agree. Everyone should have the same requirements, especially your friends!

Tell them to stop in person if they dont listen ban them for a few times

Only one question remains?

What if the person belts you and causes phical trouple in real life?

i might just remind them first about the rules. and when a friend member do it again, i'd ban them for a week or so.
