I keep forgetting this thing exists, but I do see it around every now and then, and there are stats which I've lost the link for (checked them months ago) which showed that it might be up there in vB market-share territory, making it the most popular forum software which doesn't have a foot in the grave.

The reason that it's popular is obviously because it's a Wordpress plugin and it's the ultimate lowest common denominator software. Unfortunately, it's much too simple for my tastes and it has a lot of that Wordpress black magic in the database that is more than a little disturbing.

It's basically very crudely hacks Wordpress into a forum. And it just somehow manages to work.

Integration with WP blogs is a massive plus. I mean, unless you want to shell out 70 some bucks to Theme House. Just kidding.

BBpress is a pain!!! In order to have as good functionality as MyBB, phpBB, or even half as decent as those two you need to have at least 30 other plugins installed. One being Buddypress, which I absolutely dislike.

BBPress is really hard load on your site. Not worth using it because there are limits to which it can be extended. I'd say stick with IPB, VB and XF for now. WordPress's own integration are not worth it.

Wait, so BuddyPress is a plugin to bbPress? I thought it was a standalone community add-on. Not at all confusing! 😵
BuddyPress is a plugin to Wordpress which adds things like user profiles and activity feeds, however it also has a groups / clubs type thing which is powered by bbPress, if that is installed as-well.

Discourse, NodeBB and phpBB have Wordpress intregration plugins.

I don't remember it needed bbPress for that kind of functionality back in the days when I tried it. Sure, this was several years ago so I guess they've changed a thing or two since then.

Yes, I know that thank you very much. 🙄

I last tried it back in... I believe it was maybe 2012 / 2013? Quite a few years ago.
