Been thinking about making Youtube tutorials for forum software

This is the channel:

Thank you I really appreciate it! I was thinking about maybe making a blog alongside the channel so there's both visual and text tutorials but that may be a bit much. I do personally like the new name better though, but would redirecting the domain to the channel cause confusion since the names are different?
Before I purchased ForumTutorials.com, I checked the other name and was not available...
From my perspective, any project I think about to do, it starts with the domain name first. (maybe it's because I like domains 🙂 )

But it's totally up to you the name to use. The idea of making videos explaining stuff on forums is a good idea. If you find another domain that you want to use instead, just let me know. I can get another domain for your project. Just pm me 🙂

Funny enough I usually do the same lol, but since I was just thinking about a Youtube channel this time around I didn't give it thought. I think Forum Tutorials could possibly work for the blog, I had a feeling The Forum Academy or Forum Academy.com would be taken. I really do appreciate the domain name purchase though! I've filmed the first video for the channel and will be editing it soon btw, I plan on recording another video soon and will be scheduling each video to premiere on Wednesdays. (Why Wednesday? It's the first day that popped into my mind lol.)

So I'm going to refilm the first episode since I'm not happy with how it turned out. Unfortunately that means I won't have a video go live tonight. 🙁 So I'll hopefully premiere the first episode next Wednesday! Hopefully by then I'll have more than one video finished.

I think it is a neat idea and would make a good resource for people. Are you planning to have new episodes every week?

This would have been very great before the popularity of Gen AI. For example, when I started in 2017, I did not find great resources, and only way to get help was through support forum and it did not come very handy. However, now we have Gen AI and we can get help in real time.
BIG disagree.
  • Gen AI hallucinates and should not be blindly trusted
  • It only knows what is in its training data, which can be years out of date
  • Trusting answers instead of researching / discerning makes you actively dumber
  • Various ethical (plagiarism) and environmental (energy / water consumption) concerns

I think it's fine to get some help from it, but don't trust it over official documentation. The official docs will always be more correct and up-to-date.

As for video tutorials, each to their own but I like seeing visual step-by-step guides for things. Tools like ChatGPT and Copilot are not yet ready to show you the actual software interface and guide you. You can't interact with them and they may get out-of-date with software versions, but you can still use these other resources (official docs, support forums, "maybe" Gen AI) to fill in those blanks.

BIG disagree.
You can certainly disagree. But prerecorded video might still leave some questions unanswered when it comes to doing something. However, AI gives you step by step process, if anything is unclear you can ask in real time. Sure, AI might make mistakes but when it comes to doing things AI might provider better response.

Yep I'm hoping to get a new video ready for each week! Wednesdays are the days I plan on scheduling the videos to premier. I need to redo the first one since I wasn't happy with how it turned out, since it's my weekend now I plan on recording it again and also getting another one ready for the following week. 😀

So good news! The first episode is now live! Bad news, it wasn't going to be the first video. I accidentally messed up the first video I had planned on uploading so I have to reedit that video now... But once I get a banner and channel icon created I'm going to promote the channel. Until then, here's the first video!

So this isn't directly brainstorming for a forum, but instead I've been thinking about making a channel dedicated to making tutorials for different forum software. For example, a few people have issues trying to update phpBB or install extensions for the platform. I thought about making a new channel that is solely for forum tutorials, one that is separate from my main gaming channel. Would anyone be interested in something like this? I would eventually make tutorials for other software too, I don't know if I'd have enough money to talk about paid software at least at the beginning of the channel. Also should I branch out to other platforms like Rumble, Odyssey, etc?
I like this idea!

I would link to them on my admin forum 🙂

Thank you! I still need to get around to finishing the next video. The next one coming up I intended to be the first episode, but I messed the video up. :V The first one is in my previous post if you want to share it on your admin forum, I give anyone permission to share the videos anywhere they like! I have an idea of what the next episode will be recording after I'm done editing the next one, I won't give it away though you'll just have to stay tuned!

This year is my 9th year of running a YouTube channel.

If I can give you some advice, work on 10 videos before you even publish the first. This will give you time to plan, edit, and finalize them. Try not to procrastinate though. You'll want to. Resist the urge to.

Get those 10 ready and then schedule them once a week or once every two weeks -- whatever you want your schedule to look like.

Being 10 videos ahead will give you plenty of time to stay ahead of the game and remain consistent.

Shorts are good way to grow your channel. I use Opus.pro to create shorts out of my long-form videos and then upload to my channel to get that Shorts algorithm on my side.

Community posts is great to get feedback for next videos, suggestions, and etc.

These ideas will greatly help you out 🙂

Thank you for the advice I really appreciate it! I'm definitely going to take this into consideration for both The Forum Academy and my main channel as well. 🙂

Thank you for this! I know trials usually limit what you can do with the software unfortunately, but I'm sure I could make some tutorials. I already have a vB6 license and live forum so I could make some vB tutorials using my forum.

try reaching out to the software dev companies, they are not at their peak compared to in the past and may be willing to help out for increased exposure.
