Although I'm careful to take regular breaks and not spend too long on the PC at any one time, my eyes get quite tired and strained from working on the computer.

Can you offer any suggestions for the best type of PC monitor to buy, which will help make using the PC easier on the eyes? I will most probably be buying Dell, but will consider other options if there is something particularly easy on the eyes.

Thanks!

You could try a program called flu.x . It installs on your computer an adapts the screen brightness to be easier on the eyes. I had the same problem and after using it for a few months I don't have a problem anymore

I was about to suggest the same thing. They also have that for iPhone's. 😀

Thanks for the suggestion Tindris, I've installed that, will see how it works out.

Any further suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks froggyboy, I already wear anti-glare glasses, they don't have any magnification and are a big help. Those glasses you link to might be even better, will consider those, but they are not cheap.

I've been using f.lux for a few months and it's brilliant and stops my eyes getting strained from the light of the monitor. The only problem I have with it though it only supports one of my monitors, so at night I tend to only use one.

Not really sure, just turn adjust the screen brightness when needed? 🙂

Turn the brightness of the screen down. If your tired let your eye relax, take a couple of days away from any computer monitors or try to limit it.
