Once I moved my VPS instance from Ubuntu to AlmaLinux 9 I have not had the rebuild issues I was having.
And I'm starting to enjoy Discourse in several ways as a user more than even NodeBB.
The biggest issue I still have with Discourse is that it is really only set up to be ran officially as one instance per server. Multi-homing it is not officially supported. It is something that I really think they need to take a closer look at.
AFAIK, it's always had an open sourced offering. They do also offer SaaS service for admins that do not want to go through the hassle of setting it up.
But it's easy enough to do.
Oh right. I was on their pricing page the other day but didn't realize that was for having a hosted community. 😛
Discourse is another that is similar.
I am running a site on it now, but a weakness in its offering is it is designed (from the officially supported aspect) to only allow one site on an installation instance. If you want to multi-home it, it is no longer supported by the developers and is actually a bigger PITA than NodeBB is for multi-homing sites.
Both have functions that are better than what Xenforo offers.. but in other areas they are still lacking.
As in all things.. decide what you need for your site and pick the best script for those needs.
