In your opinion, what is the best forum host?

I think you are best off going to a free hosting site and installing a fresh copy of whichever board you plan on using.

I agree with Whaturmuva.

Back when I was a free forum host user though, I always preferred InvisionFree. Not sure how they're doing today though.

There is no "best free forum host" anything with the 2 words included "free host" is absoloutely horrible, and I would suggest moving to a paid host. However if you don't have the funds, do what Whaturmuva has stated and go with a free webhost rather then forum host.

You know, you people need to learn not to shoot down free remotely hosted forum hosts, just because you don't have 100% access to everything on them.

Agreed.

I say ProBoards. I will probably be the only one to say that though. I am bias.

And to be ON TOPIC, and actually suggest something:

If you like phpbb, I would go with http://www.proforumco.com/

If you want something simple, I would go with http://www.proboards.com/ or http://www.conforums.com/index.html

No actually, free hosted forums are just not worth the time used, even if they are free, of course if you've ran a successful forum before you'd know that 😉

My ProBoards forum is nearing 50k posts. 😛

I have ran a forum on a paid host, and my own domain I owned for 5 years, and never was able to get it active, so I can say the same thing about forums that you own yourself.

And you've only had 8 active people online in the last 24 hours

Obviously you didn't market it properly, or didn't want to run the forum and therefore it failed.

13 actually. Plus 107 guests.

Wasn't counting guests or staff 😛

You said people.

I hope my staff is people, but who knows... 😛

Haha my bad, that I did, what I mean't was users (so members other than staff) im not trying to dis your forum, just trying to get my point across 🙂

To stay on topic, I would suggest either Zetaboards or Invisionfree. They both have strong support (it's the same company after all), they're customisable and they're pretty good security-wise as well.

I would say ProPhpBB for a free forum host. Provides a real copy phpBB and can be transfered if you decide to. From memory, there are no ads, but may have changed.

www.zetaboards.com - It's programmed nice and clean.
There's over 1000 Codes/Modications & Themes.

Also Zeta Boards has been up since 2004, So i doubt they will go down.

I have used them for at least 3 years now. There doing well.
Weekly updates.

Yes, I have checked that host out as well, pretty nice, but I still love ProBoards. 😛
