Best Free Hosts

None, I think there are all rubbish. I prefer using a hosting account and creating a forum like that

It still allows for at least 100,000 page views a month, if not more. More than enough for a new forum.

Get a proper hosting account for £10, free hosts suck and are plagued with ads - if you put that many ads on a site you properly owned, you'd make your money back in no time anyway if you got a decent amount of traffic.

I use a free host and it only displays 3 text ads if you're a guest. AdBlockPlus automatically blocks all ads for you, and you can manually block unwanted images and frames yourself. Other than that, you don't elaborate on why they "suck".

Yes but will your users do that?

They also suck because of the stupidly low bandwidth, high downtime, the fact that they could just disappear at any second, lack of FTP access, etc.

Good luck using a fraction of what those hosts offer before they shut you down. 5gb is more than reasonable for a handout.

Zetaboards is my favourite free host. I used them for a few years and had very little problems with them. In my experience, they were fast, secure, allowed MODs, had some nice themes, had a lot of features, and had a reasonably useable Admin CP. For a new Admin, or somebody who may not have the time or expertise to maintain a database, they're a great option.

The only problem with them? You don't get access to the database, so you can't backup your stuff. But I guess you kinda sign up for that with a free host. There's always those crawler converters if you decide that you wanna go with self-hosting anyway.
