Best Image format?

It's really hard to tell what is the best image format because each image format has some pros and cons and those image format are good for some individual things.

JPEG file format:
1.) Great for images when you need to keep the size small
2.) Good option for photographs
3.) Bad for logos, line art, and wide areas of flat color

GIF file format:
1.) Great for animated effects
2.) Nice option for clip art, flat graphics, and images that use minimal colors and precise lines
3.) Good option for simple logos with blocks of colors

PNG file format:
1.) Lossless
2.) Excellent choice when transparency is a must
3.) Good option for logos and line art
4.) Not supported everywhere

I agree with Willie. Every format has Pros and Cons. With today's high speed internet, I don't think twice about PNG as it allows transparency but JPG is better for making images smaller and is more supported.

Well represented Willie!

I would like to echo your comments, in saying that each major format has their uses, depending on the placement and execution of each.

For every day graphic work, especially where compression is concerned, JPG/JPEG is my obvious choice. Anything with minimal colours and potentially involving animation, I would lean towards GIF. Finally, anything with transparency (full, semi or alpha channel for blending) ... then it has to be PNG.

All the best,
Cal 🙂

Willie summed it up well. I practically only use PNGs nowadays. I haven't had really any issues with them not being supported: for design purposes, they are the standards. I sometimes use .JPGs for photos as well.

I think this is the best explanation you can find 😀 .
Mostly I use png and jpg files on my sites as gif's sometimes make the site lag.

PNG is best for the vector based graphics and JPG is good for raster based images.

I like PNG specially because it can fit anywhere .

Well if you want the highest quality, .tiff is also another option as well. It's not as common though.
