Best niche of forum?

What is the fastest niche would you say to get members? id say promotion as people just come for services etc.

I'd say the niche that the forum owner enjoys most and is passionate about. Building a forum is not easy and there will be difficult times before you achieve success. You will be much more likely to work through those difficulties and stay motivated, if you are passionate about what you are doing.

It's all based on your forum/blog subject, some niches are just overcrowded with forums and blogs, aside, Twitter promotion based on a cool contest in your forum could do the job.

Probably something completely illegal like music or TV downloads or the like.

Now, I don't use said sites. I don't run any said sites and I don't recommend anyone set up any such type of website. But you have to admit, legally/morally questionable free stuff is a big draw to people on the internet. I don't think I've actually ever seen such a site 'fail' in terms of not getting activity.

It's just that anyone stupid enough to try it usually ends up getting either their site/hosting shut down, sued or thrown in prison.

would agree,, however, piracy is a subject that many governements are taking seriously now and many sites are taken down, now you must get a offshore hosting that can cost a lot more than normal hosting and not as reliable as well known hosting companies

Well yes, but note that I said clearly that I didn't recommend it in the slightest, nor do I use said sites. It's just from what I've heard, they tend to get extremely popular before they get shut down.

I agree with this. As long as the owner is passionate about the forum then that will be the best niche for them.

I think there is not a bullet-proof answer to this. I think the speed to get the users depends more the effort than the niche. Having great deals and doing your best to go viral can be helpful to gain new members very quickly but if there is nothing else going on, the members usually won't stay active for long.
