I usually don't follow any tutorials when I am making a logo. I usually just look at images of logos and pull inspiration out of those it just random images I see. I don't know why but almost every image I see I can think of a way to make it into a logo, so that usually is not an issue when I am making one for others. However when I am making one for myself I have trouble for some reason. I find following tutorials to be unoriginal, your outcome will not be far off from what you are following which I would assume most people would not like.
I'd recommend using Adobe Illustrator for logos, or another vector-based graphics program. The end result is much higher quality, because it's fully scalable, rather than pixel-based.
For making logos with Illustrator, I'd recommend just googling for general tutorials in using the software. There's nothing special about logo design that doesn't apply to any other type of design. It comes down to having good taste, and knowing how to use the software, I think. It's also good to understand color theory, and other concepts like that, which can best be learned from books I think.
