WhatsApp is changing its privacy policy giving Facebook (that owns it) more data. I don't use WhatsApp often and mostly it's for text messages to a friend in the UK. If I changed to a different app, which one would be the best?
Signal is really good - I believe it was started by the same engineers that originally worked on WhatsApp, and is much more privacy focused and secure. Its becoming quite widespread too.
I know people also quite like Telegram, though I've heard a few stories that it isn't all too secure
Signal was mentioned yesterday on the news so I looked it up but wanted some opinions on it first before getting the app. I'm glad @Cumulus mentioned that the same developers worked on WhatsApp so that's reassuring.
I only knew about it because I have a friend in the UK, otherwise I really don't use my phone too much to do things. Well, in the evenings now I search Pinterest for new crafts 😀
I've heard of Telegram, I've never heard of Signal. I also have never used whatsup but I know a lot of people who have. To be honest I just use discord. Stopped using skype right around the time discord became popular though I was using skype for quite some time.
Telegram is the best alternative to WhatsApp. I actually believe that it has more advanced features than WhatsApp in almost everything. Just that WhatsApp has had more popularity.
I have been using Wire. It's another E2EE messenger, and it works very well for me. Most of the "nice to have" features in Whatsapp are included on Wire, and it also has a desktop client.
