The first debate between Biden and Trump for the 2024 Presidential election is Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.

We in the UK have just had the final debate prior to a general election between the two main contenders, Sunak and Starmer. The questions came from a reasonably balanced selection from members of the general public.

One question hit the news headlines... 'Are you two really the best we've got?'

I think you in the US might have the same problem.

It really would be nice to get someone 30 to 50 years younger in office here in the US. I mean, just looking at what I've written, you can see those guys are just OLD.

I don't want to appear ageist, I'm 65, but it's not just about having full mental capacity, it's also about seeing and understanding the world from a modern point of view and that gets harder as you get older.

Around 15 minutes into the debate I'd say Biden has already blown it. Trump in my view is a horror show but Biden is totally lost at sea.

It was a disaster. Had trouble understanding what Biden was even saying for the majority of the debate.

Now the world can see what Republicans have been pointing out for years...something is wrong with Biden, and it's not a cold. He really reminds me of when my mother-in-law was alive with Parkinsons and dementia brought on by Parkinsons. He has a lot of her mannerisms, her speech habits, her walking issues, etc...the list goes on and on.

If someone is voting for Biden in the 2024 election, they're just voting the party, and it's sad that they're using that man because he should not be in office.

How degrading. That kind of talk says to me she knows full well his cognitive abilities are diminishing so why doesn't she persuade him to stand down. That's a rhetorical question because I suspect it might be her and not him that's the driving force behind the desire for another term.

The outcome of our impending election in the UK is already a done deal, I suspect it's the same for you in the US so if you need me, I'll be in my bunker for the next four years 🙁

Her words were as if she was talking to a child. The way she had to take his hand and lead him off stage was horrific, did you see that? That's not a man of any strength, physically, mentally, emotionally, medically....

Joe did not do a good job. His answers were difficult to understand, and you can tell he memorized almost all of them. It wasn't a true debate.

Here's what I would have liked from both of them. I wanted them to talk about what they would do going forward. What changes they would make compared to what they've already done. If something didn't quite work, admit it and then give the answer as to how they'd change that this time. The public wants to know what to expect going forward. We know their pasts.

The debate was disappointing. It was much of the same as it was back in 2020. The two men basically were going back and forth on who was the worst president and why. Biden looked like he didn't even want to be there lol.

I think this is what every sane person wants but few western politicians seem able to deliver, specially when it comes to debating.

We have a different system in the UK but result is the same, a choice between two potential leaders/parties neither of which the majority want because one has brought our country to its knees and the other has no coherent policies to repair it.

I have no idea who I'll be voting for but it won't be for a candidate who has a hope of winning. I guess that's what's called a protest vote.

I'm voting but not for either of these people. The U.S. needs a change I didn't even watch the "debate", I'll see clips at some point I'm sure.
