Here's a forum marketing scenario for you all to enjoy:

Your biggest forum traffic source disappeared overnight. It's gone. It is what got you membership and the traffic that helped you earn the most money from ads.

What will you be pivoting to? What will be your next step?

Have any of you actually experienced this scenario in real life?

If my biggest traffic source vanished overnight, yeah it would hurt. No point pretending it wouldn’t. If that’s what was bringing in members and ad money, you’d feel it straight away. After the initial “oh great…” moment, I’d focus on what I actually control. First thing would be the current community. Get them more involved, push more discussions, maybe run a few things to keep people active. Loyal members matter way more than random traffic spikes.

Then I’d stop relying on just one source again. Spread it out properly SEO, socials, maybe YouTube, email list, whatever fits the niche. Build it slower but safer.

I haven’t had a full overnight collapse, but I’ve seen traffic dip when algorithms change. It’s a wake-up call. Relying on one platform is risky. Better to build something that doesn’t fall apart if one door closes.
