I know that designing a Web page depends on the style and creativity of the designer. But why a dark background? Whenever I would se a homepage with black background, it gives me the creeps. Maybe for a Halloween theme, that's fine but for a normal theme maybe a light background would be better. Take note of the comment body of this site, it is a white background and the text is black. That combination makes it easier to read. Anyway, I am just saying that webpage designers should take into consideration the comfort and convenience of the readers. It's not bad to make a design that has no kaleidoscope of colors as long as the readers can clearly see what's on it.

Well, with webmaster forums, it tends to be associated with the black hat niche and/or some sort of bad boy image. Also, black is commonly used by gaming websites. Nonetheless, there are forums that are black but are not specifically bad boy or gaming ones. For instance, HouseOfDrumming.com is about drums and it also seems to be a normal place, not evil. Does anyone know more examples?

Some websites look great on a dark background. Depends on the whole design and how things flow together. The internet needs a little color, how boring would it be if every page on the internet was just a white background with black text. Zzz

Some like dark others like white that is why it's always good to have two options so that they can pick on what they like. Having two the same themes yet one dark the other white

Of course, there is always in between colors, not just generally white or generally black.

Used to have an theme that they can pick what ever colour, Yet it eaten my server up so I removed it

I didn't know such a thing would do that.

You can get themes for forums/blog that do that.

It's just a case of toggling between two stylesheets.

Actually, XenForo just naturally does that when you have listed several themes for one forum in your admin area. In that case, if you have it checked right, the viewer can pick whatever theme they want. However, one will be the default that just naturally shows up if nothing is picked.
