Lets say that your favorite forum software (paid or free) had the ability to let you customize the forum you are using, to the point that you could turn it into both a forum and a blog, without using any one or more plugins to achieve it. Managing wise, would you do it?

There are those that like to have the ability to run a forum with a blog, or a blog with a forum. For example, with WordPress you can choose to use a plugin like BuddyPress to give you a forum within your blog. Also, there are other plugins at WordPress that allows you to share the user database of either the forum or wordpress, so that once someone creates an account on one, it automatically creates the account on the other, and only shares the username, password, and email fields to achieve that sort of connection.

Hmm, for my purposes, it wouldn't be needed or used. But if you had a niche based forum, a blog would be a good place to keep your tutorials, informational articles or long opinion pieces. *shrugs*

I sort of do this. Sort of because the blog and forum are loosely connected at best, as a way of allowing me to promote them as seperate sites.

I do this... I use wordpress for my blog and mybb for my forum... in time I will integrate the design so it looks like I'm using just one platform... and I have no need for forum users to register on the blog 🙂

I agree with theezy.

It would be useful to forums with a lot of tutorials / information needed to be shared.

What do you say is the hardest thing that you had to deal with running both at the same time?
