I've seen some forums that have a section for members to post their blogs - basically members can start a thread and update it regularly with "blog posts".

Is this something you have ever done on your own forum? If so, how did it work out and please feel free to share a link?

Is it something you've seen working well on other forums, if so which ones?

Thanks!

I am going to be allowing personal blogs on a new forum I am working on but on movie planet people may only submit reviews in their blog pages.

I use the user blog mod.

When I owned a forum I used the User Blog MOD but I wasn't a bi fan of it so I gave up on it.

I had the user blog mod before using phpBB3, it installed and worked well but people were not there to blog so it rarely got used.

I've since just added a blog to the site and have a link in my signature offering any user that wants to contribute the ability to add posts. So far, 0 signups. No surprise here as the forum users aren't there to blog.

Thanks for the replies, just to clarify I'm not asking about blog add ons or mods, I'm asking about having a normal forum section where members would create threads for their own blogs.

Never been a member of a site that does this, would be interested in seeing a site that does to so how it works and how popular it is.

The first time I saw such a forum was at Anime Scores. Unfortunately, that forum did not recover from the change of leadership, and the conversion from phpBB2 to phpBB3 was apparently left unfinished. Even so, AS was popular for awhile, and the members' blogs forum ("Resident Blogs," as it was called) garnered the participation of a few dozen members.

I love the idea of having a blog attached to a forum. Even more so if certain members can post to it. It gives the forum a fun alternative of getting information.

Only seen one forum with this and not many members use it
the ones that did used it to rant about their lives ect
And some of the ting that were written you could not have on the main forum though

Thanks for the replies and feedback everyone! It's something I considered for my business forum and your replies have been very helpful.

We just have a blog mod installed. Doesn't seem to get used that much so I can't see it staying around for too long... maybe it'll get more use eventually, but who knows?
