Apologies if this is in the wrong spot. But what blog sites would you guys recommend and why? I've been with Weebly since 2012 but I'm starting to wonder if maybe its time to move.

Weebly is great for beginners just starting out, but WordPress is by far the best. Nothing even comes close to it in terms of customization and SEO.

If you've had a blog for that long, and you want to get serious about your blogs presentation and web traffic, WordPress is the way to go. Keep in mind that WP is rather code heavy, and may take some getting used to, but it is definitely worth it.

Personally, I use Blogger (Blogspot) with a heavily customized web template.

I never liked blogspot, but I couldn't realistically afford to pay for web hosting, and all Blogger-based blogs are hosted via Google drive, which is free.

Agreed that Wordpress is the best. You can either get hosting from wordpress.com or get web hosting from a site like HawkHost and install the software from Wordpress.org on it

Oh wow, that's a pretty great looking site! And yeah, I've had it for that long and the problem is I would have to copy and paste everything over if I did make the move as Weebly doesn't offer a way to do that. I also pay for a 40 dollar domain once a year as well that I got through them. And thanks for that info Matt!

If you have a presence on social media, and have more than 20 followers, it would probably be best to just copy and paste all the old content of your old blog to the new one over an extended period of time, like one article a day. That way, you can reel in more viewers through your pre-existing audience. If readers see that you are uploading one or two articles a day, they are more likely to read your blog again later. that's how you end up with subscribers and a fan base. 😉

Thanks for that Pro, I appreciate it. And thanks for the link Twisty, unfortunately my site is more website then blog so I would have to copy/paste everything. And Pro, with your Blogger, since it automatically adds a new post to the front page, do you have to manually add the preview/image to the category it goes with?

No, the template automates the whole process whenever I make a new post. All I do is add apictureto the post, and that picture shows up everywhere it needs to. Also, Adding Tags (Labels) to the post puts it in the right category on the site. For example, if I add "Gaming" to the tags, it shows up in the gaming section of the front page.

That Jquery slider (The giant picture with the text from my post that slides to the left to show another giant picture) is also automatic. It's just showing every post, from most recent to least, in a 5 second interval. If I post a new article, it shows up in the slider by itself.

I have used Ghost before, it's really cool, however there is not much to it and you cannot add plugins or stuff, Wordpress is more of a CMS however probably the best blogging software out there. ^.^

Gotcha, thanks for that Pro. I've heard of Ghost recently as well. I'm giving Blog.com a look but the one thing currently bugging me about it is the slow loading it seems to do.

I think Blogger, Typepad or Wordpress are the best. Weebly is good for sites but the blog features are lacking.

I went with the website version of Weebly over the blog cause I thought it would be better. And things were great up until recently. I'm finally figuring out things with Blogger so that's nice.

WordPress is pretty much the best software for publishing blog posts and distributing content. I wouldn't use anything else.

You go with the .com or the .org version?
The .com is just WordPress's web hosting space, just in case you want your WordPress site hosted by the WordPress company.

The .org is just the software you download, then install into a web space you already have. It's a lot better than .com, because it supports custom PHP modifications and all 19,000 plug-ins and themes, whereas .com only supports a handful of them, and doesn't let you mess with the source code. (trust me, you're going to want to mess with it.)

Go with wordpress my friend, it's the best out there!

Even if you have no idea about messing with the sourcecode?

I started WordPress knowing nothing about the source code. Everything I needed to do, I learned through tutorials online.
