I have build a few website over the last few months and host them on a shared VPS with Digital Ocean. One of those sites functions as my primary website/gateway. It currently is the main domain for my forum as well. I have wanted to get into blogging (again), but can't really decide on a blog software. I have used WordPress in the past, but find updating it to be a pain. Not to mention it has a little more then I am wanting. Can anyone recommend a simple blogging software I can setup on a linux system OR a service I can use with my own domain (blog.example.com)?

I would look at Ghost, it's on the marketplace on DO. Wonderful basic/simple blog software!

Might have to look into it, although I did want to avoid sticking another expense and use one of the servers I already own.

If you want simple, try out GetGrav (flat file based). Otherwise WoltLab is create for the free article/CMS based system, or even Joomla (both free).

Joomla and Drupal are the big two other blog CMS systems out there: I used Drupal for an intranet project recently and was quite surprised at how nice it is as a script.

I would always reccomend WordPress however as I do feel it's the strongest on the market: But understand you are opposed to it - it can be a pain sometimes!
