Another good way to promote your forum is to set up a blog on blogger.com. Make a post about your blog and also link to your forum in the sidebar. You can also link to certain threads on your forum in posts. You should also join technorati.com and list your blog. Everytime you make a post it will show up on technorati where people can do searches. Blogger is also owned by Google, the largest search engine.

I have done that it does work too . I have gotten a few members that way.
