Well I got off work at 9:30pm and I went to pick up my daughter. She said she was hungry so we went to Denny's (a restaurant). We were eating our food and all of the sudden this guy walks in with no shirt on, covered in blood, and has a knife. I dont know if it was someone elses blood or if he cut himself up. Anyways the security guard was screaming drop the knife and had his gun pointed at the guy. Thats when they told everyone to get out. I picked up my daughter and we ran out the emergency exit. I then immediately got in my car and left. As I was leaving cops were swarming to the restaurant from all directions. Needless to say Im a little shook up. My daughter is fine though she didnt really understand what was going on. I just told her that there was bad people in there and we had to go. Now Im safe at home and who knows whats unfolding in the restaurant right now.
Ok heres the story from the local newspaper's website:
A 33-year-old man who tried cutting off his arm inside a busy Denny's restaurant because he believed it would save his life was arrested Friday night, according to police.
According to Sgt. Brian Findlen, Michael Lasiter, 33, had been injecting cocaine in a nearby motel when he thought he had injected air into his veins, which can lead to death.
Findlen said the man believed that if he cut off his arm, he could save himself from dying.
Lasiter entered the restaurant at about 10:15 p.m. and grabbed a butter knife off a customer's table and began stabbing himself in the right arm near the biceps. When that didn't work, he ran into the kitchen and got a butcher knife and started "digging the knife into his arm," Findlen said.
Police arrived almost immediately and isolated the man. A few minutes later, they used a taser to subdue him.
"He wouldn't obey a substantial number of commands and continued to stab himself," Findlen said. "There were some tense moments, but a lot of patrons didn't know what was going on."
Lasiter was arrested and taken to a hospital to treat severe cuts to his arm.
Findlen has been in law enforcement for 11 years, and said he had "never seen anything like that before."
He said the restaurant closed for the evening to clean up.
Glad you and your daughter made it out unharmed Travis ~smile~ , i went to a Denny's when i went on Holiday to America a few years ago...they do great waffles ~smile~
Anyway we have that kind of situation over here quite a lot too. I was with some mates from work ating in McDonalds one evening...when we left everything was fine.
The next morning i picked up the local paper to find that a group of men armed with a gun (turned out to be a fake gun) stormed into the same McDonalds just 40 minutes after we had left, forced everyone to the back of the restaurant and made away with the money from the tills.
