Blue Humor Offline

I have gotten fed up with the inactive-ness of Blue Humor lately. Over the past 3 days we have gotten less than 50 posts. Its gone too far.

So, I turned the site offline for a day. Ive proved time and time again, im crazy, and my methods arnt usual. If people abuse the community and dont give back, it cant live in the first place. Allow this to serve as a warning to all members of BH that are here, and everyone that visits it as a guest thats on here, join and be active or Blue Humor may not be around much longer.

The site will be back online on Wed, this is NOT an excuse to update anything, and you will notice nothing different.

I have big plans for Blue Humor, and I want to be able to carry them out, but if no one is active then forget it, I wont waste my time.

Yes, im rather mad now and I didnt think this through all the way, get used to it.

He's not giving up. If you read the whole post, this is a plan to get the members to post again and to get "Problems" with the members abusing thins, fixed.

Its not anyones fault, its everyones fault.

Blue Humor is different from other forums guys, and I had too many people getting on their wanting free jokes and pictures, and just expected me to get more as needed. Thats not how it works. I have no plans of giving up, but if I have to ill ban all my current inactive members and stert advertising elsewhere.

Ill be watching guest IP's more foten as well, and I might have to make the site member only, although I never wanted to.

Step too far? Probably. But then again im an extremist, always have been.

The point? This will show those members that only get on and read that they need to add more, or the site may not be around much longer. Hopefully that will spark some more community effort.

As always, if this is a mess and everyone leaves, ill just advertsise elsewhere until ive got all the upgrade materials needed. At that point ill be sending out a mass email and welcoming everyone back to enjoy and share the updates with us. My battle is keeping the site active until that point -😉-

And for that domain comment, im working on that. It will be included in our remodel, as well as the skin and a few major and minor changes.

That was never the plan, only posted it here because there are a few members on both sites, and I wanted to see what others thought of this idea.

Seriously, this seems like an idea to drive members away - not to get them to join.

If it drives them away, so be it. I dont need inactive members anyway.

Joke sites? Yes, millions. Solely humor based forums? We are the only one. Lots of forums have a humor section, but we are the only solely humor based forum I could find on google.

Like I said before, if this goes badly, so be it. This isnt the only place to get members at. Being as most of us here are admins anyway, it isnt really a general audence. We are really networking more than anythign else. If you want to reach true "members" (People who just join forums and dont run their own) then the best place to look is on bigger sites, and ones that arnt promotion themed, correct?

I would just like to stress that I did not give up, the site will be back online tomarrow as I have said. I can now see I probably should have thought it through better, but I didnt, im allowed a mistake every now and then.

Oh, and the site has had one minor change that some of you will notice if you visit it as a guest alot, you will now need to join in order to view the jokes. The News forum ect will work just fine.

I did not give up, simply got fedup. Im under alot of stress right now, and its clear its taking its toll on me...

Has anyone here dealt with a child, under the age of say, 8 years old before? Once you say something, you cant go back on your word or they just keep pushing. I was getting 90 posts a day, this is true. However, 60 of these were MINE and 30 to a single other member. Thats SAD when weve had 16 users online in the past 48 hours that SHOULD have been posting rather than just using the site to get free laughs.

By taking away the site, im taking away their laughs. They need to learn that not everything is free, and I wont be looking everywhere to find stuff for them all the time. No, they need to pitch in if they want the end result. Thats what this is, im teaching them I wont just give in all the time.

Guests can no longer just view jokes like before, a step in the right direction. Now im forcing them to join, and once they do, who knows, maybe theyll post some.

The site will turn online tonight at midnight, or tomarrow morning, whichever I decide. Thats final, and wont change.

I will claim that prize, of course. It will probably be used on this forum as well, because I do see this forum doing very well with the correct set of members. If that means flushing all my current ones and starting anew, I will. I think though, once the remodel is finshed, and we release our secret ideas the site will be more active. Like I said before, I just have to keep it going until that point.

The fact remains, this is the only site of its kind, its a beta idea really. Because nothing else like this has been done before and worked, its up to me to use abnormal ways of controlling it. Normal ways just wont work, this isnt a normal forum. Thats what you guys dont understand. Would I have ever done this to another type of site? No, it would have been pointless, stupid, and drove members away. This type of site, its just what it needed, proof that im not going to do everything for everyone, they can help add to it as well or it just wont grow.

You may very well be correct, but only time will tell eh? Hearing you say that doesnt make me change my mind. Like I said, if it all fails, im fine with it. Atleast I gave it a shot.

Personally, I think the site will do fine. Even if it doesnt get billions of members, I know a few people who will stick around. Im not planning on closing it at any point, ill just leave it up, even if its just for the spambots.

Agreed, I already posted this on his forum but he deleted it. Guests are going to take him and his forum far less seriously when they see that offline message. So what if you are only getting 90 posts a day. That is still good for a forums early life and you can't expect every single one of your members devoting time to your forum and posting all the time. If that was the case I would have 2300 people posting on my forum but I don't go threatening them that I will delete them or shut off the forum if they don't post.

Honestly, im confused. You have all told me this was a terrible idea, yet ive gotten 4 new members today, and quite abit of activity. Let me make this clear to you,

You dont know whats best for my site.

You think you do, but you have no idea. This is my site, and I will run it how I like. If it goes bad, its my fault. If my ideas work, however, then it will also be my doing. You all have done things your own way to make your sites what they are, I will do this my way.

Cloverfield, of course I deleted it. You came to my site and told me my ideas were stupid (basicly) in front of my members. I know efc wouldnt allow that here, and I wont let that happen on my site either. If I came to your forum and called you an idiot in your news forum, which just about all members read, wouldnt you delete it? Come on man, THINK.

Last time im saying this, I really dont give a flip what you think about this idea, as it WORKED. It got new signups, and it brought back the activty. Thats what it was supposed to do, and just because it wasnt what a "normal" admin would do doesnt make it wrong, so shutup about it.

I want this thread locked please, its done what it needed to, prove that these guys arnt always right.
