I need a new host and i've heard good things about bluehost. Does anyone with experience with it have any feedback on its performace? Cheers.

Ben.

The name rings a bell, but I don't know that much about them. They're a paid host, aren't they?

Eh, they are just another large host and they don't treat their customers very well as a result (they have enough of them to afford it). I'm not a huge fan of ''unlimited'' plans either...

I've used them and I recommend them, very little downtime and the price is reasonable.

If you are just running a forum, then go for HawkHost seriously. You are never going to use ''Unlimited'' so why pay for it? ''Unlimited'' plans are just a trick to attract consumers. You won't go over 2 gigabytes anyway, unless you are using it to store files (which defeats the purpose of a webhost).

If you are successful, you can get up to 200GB bandwidth, so having unlimited, or a large amount is needed.

Maybe only if you have a basic html website and the traffic is spread evenly over the duration of the day. If you run a script like a blog, forum or anything else like that, you won't get anywhere near that as they will cut you off to using too much CPU.

When you are getting 200GB of bandwidth, then you should be making enough ad revenue to pay for your own server...

It could be a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.

I currently have an account with them, and it's crap really. Their support isn't always the best, though they do usually get things fixed. The uptime is fine, you won't be down too often. If you plan to host a forum though, don't seriously consider them.

I owned a site called Blue Humor (still own the domain), when I launched it I had it hosted at BlueHost. We were really booming, getting about 3k posts a day with a memberbase of 100 or so, we were doing good. My BlueHost account got frozen from overloading my CPU usage limit, and since I didn't have the money to get an account elsewhere, Blue Humor had to be closed. I'll bring it back one day, but BlueHost killed my dream =\

If you're looking to host a forum or two, go with HawkHost. I had an account with them as well, everything was perfect. I canceled it because I moved my entire setup offshore (still working on some of it). If you're looking to host more than one forum, get a VPS with AltusHost. You can grab DirectAdmin for an extra $6 a month, totally worth it. I've had no downtime yet that wasn't my fault 🙂

Hope i've been of some help.

Eh, BH didn't get 3k posts a day lol... you only had 9,000 posts when you closed I thought?

I actually just deleted the database from my BlueHost account the other day, the finial totals were around 30k, but bare in mind that most of the posts would be considered spam on here. We counted word games and such, which got huge quickly.

I heard they are just as bad (if not worse) than Lunar Pages on CPU nazi-ism. 😛
