Have you started using Bluesky? It's a Twitter alternative and is by invite only right now.

I got an invite and signed up and then forgot about it. I'll probably start using it for FP very soon though because I feel we should be utilizing as many social media platforms as possible.

Not sure I'll ever use it but I at least got on there the other day and grabbed my preferred username while it's available (haha).

That was my mindset too...grab the name!

I didn’t know of its existence until I read this thread. Anyone know when they plan on launching publicly?

Are there any more invites? It sounds interesting. How is it like Twitter?

It IS. Jack Dorsey is on the board, so he can do exactly what he wants for it. He has experience with Twitter, so this is his 2nd coming.

I have 5 invite codes available. PM me the email address you'll be using for the account you want to create there and I'll send the invite to that email.

Bluesky is now fully open to the public and has recently reached 10 million users.

I’ve been using it lately, and I prefer the interface to Twitter.

Never heard of it until recently... had a wee look at it and it does remind me of the old days of what Twitter used to be (before Elon came along and gave it the reverse Midas touch).

However, after a bit of research, I personally don't think it's beneficial to promote your site/forum there (especially when postings about it will get buried quicky by others posting silly memes and such). I'd rather use Mastodon for that.

Mastodon and Bluesky are both connected to the Fediverse, so your posts will be seen on either network regardless if you’re opt in.

An important step toward a more interoperable “fediverse” — the broader network of decentralized social media apps like Mastodon, Blueskyand others — has been achieved. Now users on decentralized apps like Mastodon, powered by the ActivityPub protocol, and those powered by Bluesky’s AT Protocol, can easily follow people on other networks, see their posts, and like, reply and repost them.

Those same people will be able to see the others’ posts in return, too.

The technology making this possible is Bridgy Fed, one of the efforts aimed at connecting the fediverse with the web, Bluesky and, perhaps later, other networks like Nostr.

Even if they have their similarities, would you say that anyone can promote their forum/site on either @cpvr?

But even so, I'll still stand my decision to go for Mastodon unless BlueSky may help me and others also.

Yes, their platforms can be an effective way to reach a new audience and gain traction. I’d recommend promoting your site or forum there if you aren’t already doing so.

You’ll also gain backlinks once the search engines crawl your posts, so that’s another benefit.

I got my invite code last year and I honestly only logged into my account a handful of times. It took me months to get my invite code. I like it better than Twitter and Threads.

@cpvr told me about bluesky a week or two ago. I haven't hopped on it yet. I will soon, it'll help me get more links to my site.
