Let's say, they are equally good, but you have to choose only one option - to read a book or to watch a movie. What would you choose and why? Any examples of movies, greater then the books they were based on?

People try to look interesting/sophisticated by saying that books are 1000000x better than movies and what so ever. I am sure that most of the people prefer movies over books. So do I.

I've always read the book before I went to see the movie. I normally prefer the book over the movie because I like to take my time and enjoy the story as opposed to watching it in a matter of a couple of hours. That's if I was forced to choose.

I would read a book. But if they're equally as good, meaning the movie will have all the scenes in the book, then I would watch it. 🙂

I would prefer watching a movie first if I am not aware of that books. A regular reader might take the pain to search for the book and get it done before watching it online. But I will prefer a motion picture much more than get myself into reading books.

A good example -"The age of innocence". I think Scorsese's movie is not worse than Edith Wharton's book.

Another one is Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon", based on Thackeray's novel.

I don't have the patience to sit still for a movie anymore. I guess I could take a few minutes to read daily, if I knew the story was really good. I always loved reading more than movies or TV anyway.

Having to choose one would be silly. Both mediums have something to offer.

A member above pointed out how people may act smug about their preference for books (and such a smug individual might say the "right" books like "classics" instead of "trashy novels"), though I would add that there are quite a few people who do the same about which movies they watch, or about which songs and artists they listen to, or about which games they play, or any other media they had no hand in making. There are games/movies/songs/etc that people are taught to admire and applaud as sophisticated, and anyone who does so must be sophisticated too.

I think Watching movie is better than reading books. For me watching movie is entertaining and fun.

I would prefer a book. I find it harder to lose myself in a movie and prefer having my mind make up how everything would look in my head.

Everyone knows that books are always better. <3 I still like movies, though.

I like reading books more because it provides the story with more detail, and I just like reading. I don't really like watching movies in general.........

If you can guarantee that a movie and a book are equally good. I'll take the less time consuming experience.

There are some times when books are better than movies, and some times when movies are better than books. I remember whenever I read all of the Jeff Lindsay books about the Dexter character, and it pales in-comparison to the show. At least the first few seasons.

However, something like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings is more subject to debate.

It always depends... I am a writer, I have wrote three, almost four, novels, but I love films. I think they are all part of the same thing - storytelling.
