How do you go about getting more activity on your forum? Do you provide a different niche that others don’t offer? Do you start new topics? Do you ask open-ended questions?
What are some tips you can share?
Even though mine is a different niche, it’s still hard having active members.

Just keep on posting and keep on passing and sharing on social media and then that's what all I do.
Keeping on posting is definitely a good idea.

Sharing on social media might get some views but most social networks put less weight on the externally linked content.

Your best strategy with social is to build a community of its own on social media and occasionally promote external content. But build the community around the name and brand of your forum so that people on social realize there is a forum for it. It might not make sense to do it like that since you already have a community right?

But it works! You have to play social on social's terms.

I have one forum that has a Facebook page with more than 10,000 followers. It is easier to get those page followers back to the forum by posting content that mentions the forum without linking to it.

I have another page with less than 100 followers for another forum. It is harder to make this happen because a community has yet to be established on the social page.

I occasionally use posting services as well as hire paid posters to boost activities on my forum. This will help your forum look active for visitors and existing members. The problem with using posting services and hiring paid posters is that most of them tend to post low-quality posts.

The thing is, you need to plan those Social Media posts.

Does it have news? Does it have hashtags? Does it have images that relate to said story?

You need to make habits around those core tenets of strategies. Otherwise your post will not be seen.

And if that hashtag is trending: Get. IN. there. For example, I tried coordinating with FP on getting a post ready for a reveal. Because of the hashtags.

I think getting and keeping a forum active that has a good set-up is a major coin toss. Either you luck out or you don't.

When it comes to boosting activity I always try to create new content on the forum that has questions so that members will feel inclined to answer and be active on the forum. I also do things like post exchanges with people so that I have activity coming onto the forum as well but I am also helping out other forum owners as well.
