Hey The1,

I have to say man, what a great forum topic you have here. Very unique. Do NOT give up on this one. Forums take time to develop with a lot of hard work. This could turn out to be a very great forum!

To be honest with you I am not to fond of the ProBoard Software. If you ever plan on switching software's let me know and I just might join. haha :cheer:

Good luck to you and your forum mate.

Regards,
Brandon

I would say to focus on a certain area, eg. NSW. The Australian forum: BoredOfStudies.org is going strong and well developed. All I can say is that if you are trying to target Australians, then it's going to be tight as the main competition won't be taken down anytime soon, I can assure you.

Good luck though.

I used to have a bored like this - i never advertised it so it never went anywhere, if you get off proboards i might join 🙂

You may want to fill up the empty forums though, and maybe broaden some of the categories until you have some activity flowing through them.

Aka: Instead of a bunch of University sub-forums, just have them all in the one forum, then branch out when you have a few posts for each area.

Always start small, then get bigger, like a growing tree. 😉

I would also recommend getting off ProBoards. I personally feel they're pretty limited in their features. If you 'must' go remotely hosted, I would recommend Zetaboards (I used them for months and were pretty good in my experience) because they have a lot of built-in features, strong security and a user-friendly Admin CP.

If you want to go self-hosted (which a lot of people, including me, would recommend), then I would recommend MyBB software, because they have great support, have a fairly easy MOD system (in comparison to something like PhpBB) and they're free.

But hey, it's up to you.

The site mentioned above has recently fallen in standard is the reason why I thought of creating my own forum. Moderation is non-existent there and sometimes the site goes down for days without any prior or post mention.

Thanks to everyone for all their suggestions and I will be sure to consider them. Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate it a lot! 🙂

Just RE what everyone has been saying ProBoards 😛

At the moment I think it is the best option for me. In the future I am looking to move onto something else like vBulliten (Or if people have any other recommendations)

Yes, I am SERIOUSLY bored of studying mind-body problem right now! 😀 Problem is that I took this additional philosophy course which is self taught, and now I have to write an essay by next monday!

Great focus! I'm sure you'll succeed! 🙂 Just don't give up and try to get your own hosting as soon as possible. Proboards sucks imo. 😉
