I have noticed that it is hard to find my forum on search engines, which I think is holding back ppl from finding and joining... Now I have noticed alot of bots for like Yahoo & Google, I was wondering, how exactly do they index a forum?

I notice that unless I type in the name of my forum, that the threads are always like 1-2 pages down in any listings?

Your search engine ranking is mainly based on how many sites link to you and the quality of the sites that link to you. The more and better sites that link to you the higher your forum is -😉-

Don't rely on search engines as is it very hard to get alot of traffic from them as you need to be on the first page under popular keywords for it to make any major difference.

All you can just do is sit back and forget about it and find other ways to promote your forum and over time you should work your way up.

I disagree. Don't sit back, go out an build up your PR and backlinks so that you can be #1 for the search engines. If you need some SEO help, PM me.

It doesn't improve overnight or anything and if you think about you need to be near the top and only one site can be top and in most cases it would be very very hard to be top so it would be worthwhile to find other means to promote which would get more traffic.

If you concentrate too much on search engines to start off with you won't get much traffic from search engines to start off with so if you make a new forum then you won't get many members although if you promote using other methods you will immediate traffic.

I don't concentrate on search engines but over time we have worked our way up to near the top.
