I am in the process of making a entirely new forum to go along with my main website. I am simply looking for suggestions of what could make it better to attract users.

I dont have alot of content posted in the forums yet. I wanted to make sure that it was completely responsive for mobile devices before i started going to far with posting.

I have got Facebook Connect working, and it is responsive. Any and all suggestions are more then welcomed. I havent Admin a forum/community in a very long time and things have changed alot since i have

Your correct in saying that forums have changed, I noticed it too when I re-turned a few months ago. So I thought I will help you a little by explaining some things I am seeing other forums do.

Teams:

Depending on the type of forum you are wanting to make really depends what type of teams you would want. A good example of a team is here on FP. We have an Admin Team, Community Team (Moderators), Review Team, and Package Team, Dev Team as well! But I have seen other forums try something new. The idea is simple, package, and review teams seem to help each other, so the concept here is that those teams are merged into a service team. This is a one team covers all bases, the good things about this is that you can add and subtract services without the need for new ranks. but again depends on the type of forum.

Ranks:

In my opinion rank images are old and clunky, what I love about FP is that the ranks are fully coded, this means that they can be changed really fast, this saves time and all the modifications can be done in house!

however, I think that we are starting to move away from the large ranks anyway. it has been suggested (by me) that forum ranks become smaller. in fact, the rank itself could be just like those verified ticks on Twitter or Facebook. the idea is that teams can be identified with a colour so text in a rank isn't really needed.

Design & Layouts:

I would make sure you follow design trends as best you can, that using flat design to create the image of the forum. simple forums are usually the easiest to navigate, and judging from the post it seems a lot of your members will be from elsewhere so UX is really important.

I think that about covers it!

thanks for your feedback. This is really the first forum of this type that i have made. The large ones i used to admin in the past were very easy to promote and become active. But i am no longer involved, or interested in the warez scene at all. So i have alot of work ahead of me lol

If you need a hand give me a PM haha

Forums are very delicate and take a lot of time. Keep recommending to your friends and family. It also helps to take advantage of the posting packages and the review packages that FP has to offer. It will help you build your forum. My forum is just over a month old and it has almost 800 posts with 20 something members.
