I'm a little bit confused when you say that buying .coms will be good to brand something.
My question is, what do you mean by branding in this case? Aren't any other extensions brandable?

Yes, of course other domains are brandable, in fact some even more so (for example, thing like instagr.am). However, in my opinion, .com's are more easily brandable, simply because you do not need to advertise it as a .com.

For example, if I told you the name of my site was AndroidBlog, but didn't tell you my domain name, you would probably go straight to androidblog.com. This would be fine if my domain was androidblog.com. However, if it was not, it would cause a few problems.

My point being, .com's are simply easier to remember.

To add up to AndroidOS`s post.

.com`s are widely accepted and are well known. In case of a site that is mean`t for webmasters you can get any TLD, but if you website is about something general and non-tech like a fashion website or a home, gardening etc etc. you should consider getting a .com

Where i live not many people know about websites or even what domains are(not even my family 😛) but they do have a understanding of internet and if i tell them about a website most of them think or create a general understanding that i might be a .com domain.

This is why i always prefer to get a .com
