So I've been on a few communities and have seen the administrators decide to bring back retired staff as even retired administrators back to there previous groups. For example I was on a community where a Moderator retired and then after a few months was allowed ancient as administrator.

So so you believe retired staff members should be prioritised to becoming forum staff again or should they have to go through the formal application process like normal members?

Share your thoughts below.

I think they should be prioritized in becoming staff again if they want to.

I think it depends on the current staff position they are apply for in addition to their past experience related to the position.

I think it depends really. There are certain people that you would just love to join back the team when maybe they left because they didn't have time before but do now. Then you could also have someone who you didn't really work well with and left. It's best not to take them back

Yes in terms of reliability and trustworthiness you know for certain they can be trusted with responsibility.

Though us giving the opportunity to new fresh individuals better?

I'd put retired staff/admins through the same process or standards/expectations as any other member. Nothing more, nothing less. If there's an application, they should fill it out. If they are expected to be active and show commitment as a member first, they should do that. I have nothing against bring back past staff, they've obviously already proven themselves to be a worthy candidate once, so as long as whatever reason that caused them to resign the first time is no longer an issue than they should find their way back on the team.

I think retired staff should be given the priority. The reason why I am saying this is they know the forum well and they have an experience working with you.
Choosing a person who can do a good job is what is required when hiring. When you know that the person did a good job previously and he/she is trustworhty then having them go through the application process is just waste of time.

Recruiting fresh members for the position is like taking chances., it can be good or bad. Hiring the person you know from you past experience is always good.

Thats a kind of double fixing question. I think that retired staff members who are worthy of being prioritized should be prioritized, but should also be made to pass through formal application process.

This is important because, no matter what the experience is, it is possible that over the time, a staff member has lost the motivation to work for the community they will be representing. A formal application process lets the team judge the motivation on top of all other variables that they think needs to be rejuvenated or updated.

Since they were once good staff members, yes, I'd give them priority. For example if they didn't have enough time back then and do now, then yeah, I'd hire 'em again.

Yeah. I think they should be able to rejoin if they did a great job and contributed their time and services to the community.

I'm all for this concept and would gladly do it myself. If the staff member in question had a good reputation within the forum and he/she performed their duties according to what I would typically expect out of them, then heck yeah, of course I'd take them on again.

They should the priority over other members, simply because you know they have experience, and experience with your forum. However it mainly depends on what their position was and will be.

I think if the retired staff member had previously done a good job, then there is no reason why you shouldn't take them back on. If they are willing to help out again, then you must be doing something right.

if the retired staff member is to return to their previous position then yes, they should have priority over those who have applied. You know what to expect from them, and if they did a well enough job back when they were staff then that's a plus.

I guess it really depends on whether they will contribute well to the forum if made staff. Previously being a staff member can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how they performed the first time.

Bring back old staff members is only a good idea if they are good. If you have worked with them before and things went very well, then I think you should prioritise them because you know they will be able to contribute to the forum and bring something new. However, if you had problems with them or they have been pretty neutral, then I would consider them equally as other staff. If they had been a pain, then I would not consider them because this would cause issues to the team.

I personally don't have preference. If the old staff member returning has the skill to match what the team needs and there is no better applicant than him/her, why not. I'm more towards judging all candidates fairly. Experience is a bonus point, but shouldn't stop us from judging skill as objective as possible.

We should also be careful of those who only want to return to get on the team by doing something minimal. Clarifying this at the beginning may help to solve the problem. This can also happen with new recruits, though, so it's a general problem actually.
