Did you build your own computer or did you buy it from one of those pre-made sellers?

I built my computer, I don't like buying it from Dell and people like that because you have to pay for labor. Which I could do my self if I bought the parts.

I have always bought mine, and I never really pay attention to specs or brand. As long as I can use the internet, I'm cool with whatever. Of course I wouldn't buy some crappy 90's computer or anything like that, though; I just give specs a quick glance to see if it's at least decent enough for my needs.

Well I haven't built one in a long time but I prefer it to buying some pre-made unit. Now days I pay a local PC shop to build one for me. They usually only charge me like 200.00 over parts which still comes up a hell of a lot cheaper and better than some Dell computer.

The only bad thing about pre-made computers are that you have to pay for labor when you could just read the manuals on how to put it together

Building my own performance PC has always been something that's interested me. I know how to build a computer from scratch but have never really been aware of the cost element of it.

How much cheaper would you say it is to build a custom machine with say 500Gb hard drive, quad core (2+ GHz) processor, 4 GB DDR2 Ram and re-writeable DVD drive (basically something like a Dell XPS) as opposed to buying one "off the shelf" with the same spec?

I bought my Compaq from Circuit City before they closed. It's a great PC, but if I did build it myself I would have gave it a better graphics card.
