I'm looking at building my own style for my site on vB 4. I know some CSS and stuff, but i'm not sure where to begin.

Do people use the default vB skin as a starting point?

Does anyone have any tips or a guide to starting making your own style?

Then there's the stylevars.... 😕

Any help would be much appreciated.

@clarkey most people just make them from scratch like the major companies they make it via photoshop and do the same slicing ect.. As vBulletin is mainly html/css which causes it to be just like a web template. However if you wanted to I'm sure you could use the main css/default style and just mess around with the css ect..

I might give it a go from scratch then.

I don't think it's possible to build it offline though without turning my vB off. 😕

Well I normally use the forum softwares default style and it edit to hell and back.

I make my images all separate aswell. Its mainly just being good at photo editing and coding.

Yeah i've started with the default style. my mate is hopefully going to be doing the photo editing side and i'll be doing the coding side. it's quite eciting to see what we'll end up with, we'll either fly or dive! 😛

You can always set up a test environment either on your host or locally, and just test and build styles there.

The best place to get answers to those types of questions are at vbulletin.com
Anyways, I hear that vB 4's template system is buggy and not yet finished. That is one reason Im sticking with 3.x.x for the time being.
