The term 'Man U' originates from an insulting song from our rivals Leeds. These people were supposedly Leeds fans but they were pretty sick human beings. They created a song which insulted all the men including Duncan Edwards who died in the Munich air disaster in 1958.

Our other rivals soon caught on and since then 'Man U' has been a nickname to cause offence to our people who lost their lives over 50 years ago.

These were the songs that they used:

"Man U, Man U, went on a plane! Man U, Man U, never came back again!"

"Man U, never intended in coming home!"

So you see, now you know never, EVER use this nickname again as it is an insult to the club you have forever loved.

If you hear anyone using the term 'Man U' please correct them and tell them to use one of the folliwing:

Manchester United
Man Utd
United
Red Devils

Thanks for the explanation Richazey, I've heard the "Man U" term used by very many people over the years and I've never heard the background to it. Apologies if I caused any offence. I'd imagine that lots of people use the term without meaning any insult, or being aware of it's origins.
