Hey, ForumPromotion!
I've been debating for a short time now whether I should fund and create a business-oriented forum.
However, unlike most forum owners, I've decided to do my homework before diving into the expenses and development.
My plan is to create a business discussion forum in which members may discuss all aspects of business; money making, marketing, news, financing, entrepreneurship, economics, etc. This will also be a place for entrepreneurs of all ages to advertise their product or service.
My question is, however, is the demand there?
Are you interested in a business forum?
I'll also be searching for admins/developers in the near future if interest is shown.
I mean, it's not like it's an original idea by any means. A few come to mind right off the bat, specifically Business Advice Forum. And a quick google search results in several other reputable business websites.
What does that mean? It's definitely already a thing, and there a lot of communities that have been established for a while that do it very well. Can you do it? Definitely. Feel free to devote yourself to it and you can probably become a competitor of these big forums with a lot of hard work. Do I recommend it? Not really. Running forums are hard work and they take a LOT out of you -- mentally and financially.
Here's what you have to consider: Do you want to do this as a serious business investment? If so, I wouldn't recommend it at all. Do you want to have fun, meet some cool people, and maybe get a semi-active forum going? Then you should probably go for it! The worst thing you can do is fail, and that's how we learn our greatest lessons.
My last piece of advice would be: if you are trying to compete with all these big business forums, maybe specialize. Find a niche you are passionate about, and become the business forum for that niche. Again, probably not a unique idea, but it would probably give you more financial success then just trying to swat at the big guys on general business.
All in all, it comes down to what you want to do. I hope this post helps you realize what you are trying to do, and I wish you good luck in whatever your decision may be!
I think the entrepreneurship and the startup community are underserved regarding decent forums to chat in.
I mean... its all still business stuff... but framed around small business and the creativity associated with starting new business (as opposed to running a business).
