Is anyone here interested in starting a career in business/running their own business?

Personally I took Business for GCSE (Double Award) and got an A and a B. I'm now taking it for A Level and would like to start my own business one day maybe... though I have no ideas at the moment, maybe one will come to me over time.

Starting a business in this day and age would be so difficult. Economy is just wiping out all amateur businesses around and hardly any non-chain ones survive.

So, I wouldn't waste time (right now) trying to get a business up.

I'm thinking about majoring in business when I get to the university, but I wouldn't open one up till about 10 years or so from now, after I get my doctorates or something.

If you truly want to be an entrepreneur I don't personally believe you need to go to Uni or take special exams, just go for it, if you have the drive the ambition and ideas to succeed.

Too much theory and not enough practise can be a bad thing.

I am not saying education and exams are not a good thing, just I feel sometimes some people spend too long studying how to do things than actually getting on and doing them.

I did a National Diploma in Business at college for 2 years. I didn't do it at school as when i did my options it didn't appeal to me. My aim was to go down the line of eventually start my own business although when i started my course i didn't know i was going to finish it right at the start of a financial and banking crisis. It makes it hard to really get any job in the first place so you could even start the path to owning your own business. I do still hope one day i will.

You have no idea what businesses can make youendless amounts of money...it makes me lol sometimes.

um but you're 14... can't own a business legally then 😛

I've thought about it, most likely I'll be going into internet Marketing though, always have ideas for new businesses though 😛

Thats what I was going to say..

I'd disagree. Now is a great time to start a business, if it is the right type of business. There are plenty of types of businesses that are recession proof and are waiting for people to tap into them.

Even in a recession, people spend money and buy things, maybe not luxury items but they still spend. For instance, people will still buy books in a recession, as they prefer to spend more time inside than going out spending. People will spend more time on the web during a recession, again, because it is a virtual world and you can forget about what is going on outside.

Personally I started my own business earlier this year, in the heart of a recession. Why, it is cheaper to get started at the moment, you can do deals with people that 2 years ago they would never accept. We here all this talk of banks not lending and not doing any good for small businesses now, but if you work hard enough and your business plan is good enough you will get support.

Oh, it probably helps that I am in debt collection :great:

Not really. Selling stuff on Amazon is a really good way to make a living, and I could live totally fine in one room

I am interested in starting a career in business but no big one. I would like to own just one or two stores.

My dad and I were talking about opening up a soccer store near us since there isn't one. That would be so much fun.
