When i get to the MyBB install step where i put in my MySQL db info, i can't fill them all in because when i create a db in the vistaPanel(Bytehosts cPanel) it just gives me a database name... no username, password, nothing. Just the db name.

What would i have to put in for the:
Database Server Hostname
Database Username
and
Database Password

Have you created a mysql database?

Your user name and password will be the same as your control panel account..

Read what I said above...

Also I recommend switching to a good Cpanel Host 🙂

Oh you added that second part after i made that post.

And that doesn't work.

If you can access C Panel then your first database will normally have have to be configured by yourself, I found the easiest way was to use the database wizard, that will set up the tables for you.

One stumbling block for some people is you also have to set up authorised users for each database you create, C Panel is not very noobie friendly, but it is quite obvious what you need to do if you look hard enough and long enough, I find a beer and a mars bar help !!.

VistaPanel is ugly and doesn't install forum software very well. I would go with a host that uses cPanel. 🙂

CPanel? no one heard of ISPmanager? Much better 😛

I remember using ByetHost but not for any database scripts. all I can say is leave them now, while you still can.

I am trying to get away from x10hosting.

Does anyone know of a free one that can easily set up forums and such, but not x10hosting,000webhost, or sitefrost?

Also, have you left it as localhost? other than that, it is basically your account name and pass.

I always seem to remember Byethost as one that doesn't have the MySQL on local host but on an external server? :S

No i didn't, you just did not read it correctly.

Anyways what I said is correct, I ran a host with that control panel.

From my memory:

Server Name: sql###.byethost.com
Database Username: Vistapanel Name
Database Password: Vistapanel Pass
Database Name: Vistapanel Name_what you want to call it.

That's correct, as byethost never has localhost for Vista panel!

Cheers!
