I just changed my forum's host from Ideastack to HawkHost, and I didn't delete the forum files and the database there at my former host's CPanel. Is it possible for Ideastack to create problems for me somehow by using my forum files or database? Should I consider logging in and deleting all the stuff at my old host? They have backup of everything for the last 7 days though.

You could have done that in the time it took you to post this topic.

I can delete them, but these hosts always have a backup. So, if they want they can use it, right?

Was your former host known for using people's backup files without permission?

I think this can be considered an invasion of privacy or your copyright since you own your files, and did not give them permission to use your files.

Not sure though, never studied law in school.

I don't think they will do that since that will be a invasion of you privacy and you could take them to court if they do.

Well, if it states in their ToS that they are allowed to reproduce your work, and you've accepted it, then you don't have a case, as you accepted it.

However, why would they need to? They've got more to worry about then old files and if they do, it would give them a bad appearance which hosts do not want.

You can also report them to the Better Business Bureau , MyWot.com and other consumer protection organizations and complaints forums if you feel like you are being mistreated.

I also think they might want your repeat business if you ever decide to go back to the host, so they might try to maintain a good relationship with you.

Hosts gain and lose customers all the time. They probably won't do anything unless you did something to really annoy them and they want to get revenge. I really would not worry about it and move everything over and wait a few days then delete all the content from the old host.
