Hey all,

Would it be at all possible for me to change my current forum to phpbb3 style without losing all the posts currently on it??

Thanks

BTW, what is your forum software do you use now? If you use SMF, I'll tell you how to 'migrate' it into phpBB3 system. If you only want to change the forum theme, I don't have a suggestion to you.

i think he is currentoy on forumotion, do you want to still be with with forumotion and change to phpBB, or are you planning to host a phpBB forum your self?

Yes I am currently with forumotion, and don't have a problem with them so would just like to switch to phpBB3 with them if possible???

What I don't want to do is lose all my posts in the process, if that were a possibility I'd stay as I am.

Ta.

It might be best to ask on their support forum as i don't know how they manage updated or even if it is possible at the moment on their network.

Either way you should be able to update without losing anything. At most you might just have to redo the permissions.

Can you get a copy of your database? If you can, then you would have a way of keeping your posts and users.

But I do not believe that Forumotion hosts with phpBB3. You'd have to move to MyFreeForum or another phpBB3 free hoster.

Ask them to see if you can get a backup of your database and then a copy of all your files. sign up to a free webserver like "phpzilla"
copy all your files onto the server "htdocs" go into myphpadmin go to import. find your zipped backup. it should upload. when that is all complete you should see your own forum....

Then update it to the the latest version you can of phpbb3, then update to the most recent..

(if forummotion has a style called prosilver then it's phpbb3) (if it just has subsilver and no prosilver then It's phpbb2)

Hope I helped

Forumotion does offer phpBB3 so there should be an upgrade option to get from phpBB2 to phpBB3.
