Can small forums be just as active as a big forum?

I'm a member of a very big affiliate marketing forum which has tens of thousands of posts and thousands of members. Though most of the posts were made over a year ago. There are rarely any really good new posts made on that forum. Conversely, on another forum that I'm part of (about anime), there is a very active small community of maybe ten members. That small community has more daily interaction than the big forum. Lots of really fun daily posts and comments back and forth between the members. They all really seem invested into the community. Just speaking from the point of view as a forum member, I would much rather be on the small but highly active/responsive forum than the big but mostly dead big forum that is way past it's prime.

I do believe they can yes. If you can get a close knit of good members who enjoy being on your forum and post regularly then yes you can have an active forum just from that.

Yes. I agree. I would prefer small activr community than a big inactive community.

Well, I have not been to big but inactive forums. However, I have been n to big but 'unknown' forums. I mean, a forums where no one know each other. - because it is too big.

Definitely possible. Just look at Atrium; 40,000+ posts in less than a month with less than 200 members.

Just gotta get the right community. I've seen forums with thousands of registrations but no activity at all because there is no community. A lot of those you could tell most of the memberbase were paid or from exchanges, which really isn't how you should be getting all your activity.

Atrium is a perfect example, they're not far off 100 members daily. They average around 95 I think.
