I tried college and work in the past and both have caused me too much stress and anxiety so I had to leave.

I'd like to know, is it possible to become independent even without school or work?

If you're rich, you don't need work or school though many rich people do both, possibly to prevent boredom or to fit in with social norms.

If I Was rich I be still working on PCs

Some types of work like blogging might not seem like work. In addition, if you set up an advertising system, like an Adsense empire, then you'd get passive income that doesn't seem like work. However, building the system is a lot of work! Getting a huge fan base for a blog so that one day you can lay around is also hard work!

That depends. Was your stress related to too much work at your school or work or was it related to just being around people? If your stress issues are related to being around people, especially around crowds, then you can probably do what Jason76 mentioned. If your stress and anxiety is related to too much work then the idea that Jason76 presented wouldn't be a good idea for you. It all depends on what caused/triggered the stress and anxiety that you were dealing with at that time.

yet we nned to learn on the working side other then paid work

This kind of question I would take it as if a person was asking if you could survive without food or water. No you can't survive without work because without work you can't make money to provide for yourself and your family (if you chose to kids, etc). Without a education well, you're screwed, good luck you'll need it.

I can say that I am currently independent from school/work. But it took me a lot of sacrifices before I attained that. SACRIFICE is the key before you could achieve such independence.

I wish I could do that, my job causes me stress and anxiety at times but if I quit, I'd be out on the street begging for change in no time.

I've learned that stress is part of life. The quicker you learn to deal with it, the better off you'll be in the long-run.

Government aid, pension, trust fund, school, or traditional work can let someone survive. To be independent of those things is very tough. Of course, I'm assuming the OP is hinting at "work from home" stuff.

I'd say no, by definition. You could survive on welfare or, if you were rich, your money, but you wouldn't be truly independent. You would still be dependent on those things.
