Our new laptop is bundled with Windows 7 but no MS Office. I was able to borrow an installer of MS Office 2003 edition. When I clicked on the install application, it seems to be running in the background but no window was opened. After 15 minutes of running, I cancelled it. The installer was okay in the desktop which is running in Windows XP. Any opinion on this?

Are you sure it’s a new laptop?

Windows 7 was released all the way back in 2009.

Windows 8 was released in 2012.

Windows 10 was released in 2015.

Looks like you purchased a laptop that is at least 6 years old.

Why go for Office 2k3? Office 2007 is much more advantageous and with updated features.

It's a brand new HP 3478 Notebook that I bought from a reputable company whose marketing officer happens to be my friend. She said that the OS was downgraded to Windows 7 because Windows 10 may have issues with the hardware. It's not clear to me about the issues. But we can upgrade it to Windows 10 anytime, she added.

@RH-Calvin, we don't have an installer of the higher MS Office version. We are trying to save on expenses so we settled for the free installer of 2003.
