Are dreams like Cashless economy really too distant? Will it be ever possible for a large community to thrive on a cashless system and just use credit cards and other cashless systems for day to day needs and activities?

Well of you look into history it is possible primarily through trading, but the thing is there always has to be something of value.

Socialism is a perfect example of it being a possibility but the huge flaw and the reason Socialism never works is due to human greed and humans will never truly be perfect individuals.

So to sum it all up it is possible, but due to how humans naturally are that is what it makes it a impossibility.

In short, this.

Humans will always trade something of value. This could be gold, tools, food, water, money, or whatever - however, something has to have value for us. Money, as we see it today, is the easiest form of a currency, since it's universally accepted.

I don't think we can be 100% converted to cashless transactions. There will be still need for paper bills to meet our daily needs.

I think that it could be possible, the only reason we use paper and now plastic to pay for things is because we deem it to have value. If you look back, we traded anything that was of value to the other person, either food or clothes. Now in our highly technological system, I think it is possible. just look at how games economies are run, they have no real currency yet they work. In short, I am saying that this system will work, in fact, it may make it easier to buy things without the need to exchange currency or get money out.

rather stay with the good old way with cash in hands

Although the old way is good, having a system where you can pay the full amount instantly still helps. you will not need to get money out at the ATM or make sure you have the right amount.

I do see the problems with this system, as our technology evolves so too does the thief's and scams, this causes more problems. but I am sure that we can someday uses this system.

Yeah I agree but I think we will one day universally accept paying by card or something else

Why tho? think about it, we only need paper money to pay for cheaper things like a glue stick or paper. maybe one day we will see us using cards, we are already seeing it with tap paying in my country.

Only way you would be able to really, honestly have a cashless society in a modern era or with humans in general is quite simple.

1. Strip Humanity of all its freedoms.
2. Dictate everyone to live in harmony or face heavy penalties (such as death)
3. Be Hitler

That about sums it up honestly. Cashless system can be easily manipulated and can very easily lead to a dictatorship.

And it will keep the citizens so much accountable that people will find ways to circumvent this.

How and why would it lead to that

I thought he had some important points^ It won't be necessary to strip humanity of freedoms as long as the accept the fiat system presented. That is how currency works today and if the same mindset is pushed on a technological form of currency than that'll be accepted.

Well, the problem with credit cards is that someone, somewhere, can just go into the system and edit your bank account balance if they want to. 😛 Like the government, a bank, or a hacker. It means that the user (us) would lose a whole lot of control.

I think many government proponents of getting rid of cash want to curtail illegal transactions like drug buys. Even legal transactions though... most if not all legal pot shops take cash instead of credit cards, because no payment processor will work with them. If you get rid of cash, you give "the man" control and knowledge of everything you buy.

* * Of course it's possible. Economies used to exist without cash or credit cards. Economies can move away from cash to electronic forms of payment. It's our world. We do what we want with it. 🙂

Going completely cashless will not be possible without the help of people of the community. There must be provisions made by the government to install Point of Sale (POS) machines event at small shops, every nook and corner. When all the factors are taken care, then a true cashless economy can be created.

So we agree. A cashless economy is something that can be accomplished if we set our minds to do it. We set our minds to create banks. We can set our minds to create a cashless economy. It is possible.

The trend that I see is an economy with very little cash in circulation. I now pay my bills via online banking where payments are debited to my bank account's balance. All my major purchases are paid thru my credit card. Although I still use cash for the day to day expenses, I can see that the need for cash is dwindling. Mostly, my cash purchases are the trivial transactions like snack items in convenient stores or bus fare. In 5 year's time, cash will be a rare commodity.

We have somewhat of that thing on here with the post exchanges. Basically, you do a certain amount of work and you get an equal amount in return. There is no fuss over inflation or anything like that.

The UK is already close to being a cashless economy. I think it likely we may well get there before we are properly ready for it.
