CD-R Question

Hey, I have a question.

I bought some CD-R's from a store the other day. I used to use them to put songs on before and play them. But if I put a video file on there and put it in a dvd player.. will it play the video?

What video format would it need to be, if any?

I have burning software on my computer.

The DVD player should be playing them if its not too old.

Hmm, it didn't work when I first did it. Do I need it in a diff format?

Was the format .avi ? And was it inside some folder ? If it's inside some folder, you might face problems playing it. And if the format was .avi and it didn't play, you'll have to go for .vob conversion but this would decrease the quality. If you haven't tried out .avi file, I guess you should have a go.

It was .mp4

Ah, that's why. Maybe your dvd player doesn't support .mp4. And was it inside some folder or direct on the parent disc directory ?

By the way, what error did you get while playing ?

It probably doesnt.

I didn't get the error, I gave it to my friend. So I don't know, it was not in a folder.

Try .avi format and check if it works, hopefully it should.

But if it doesn't, then the only option left is .vob.

Most DVD players also support Divx AVI.

^This. You could author it into a DVD (VIDEO_TS Folder). Best to use DVDs though, most videos can't fit onto a CD without re-encoding and making the quality crap.

I also heard of a format called SVCD on TechTV aka G4techTV http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Video_CD

It is better quality then VCD. I think SVCD is the same quality as VHS.
