Censorship

Let's play a game. The next user to even remotely insult, degrade, or malign another in this thread will be immediately issued a chill out ban.

Consider this your warning.
Not only is this censorship (how ironic, is it not?), but cool down bans NEVER work. Trust me, I'm not trying to be all macho and tell you that I've been around the block a few times, but cool down bans often do the exact opposite of what is intended.

As for this topic, censorship is wrong and shouldn't be tolerated. Unless in a pornographic nature (Playboy, GGW, the works), or outright profane, regular TV shows (FOX, NBC, ABC, Sky) shouldn't be censored. This said, I think there should be adaquate warnings before a program is on (warning of profanity or whatnot).

EDIT:I should bring George Carlin into this 😀

Lol, I know **** is a swear word... though censorship has gone too far, and in the UK at least the earliest it is on is at 10PM. Don't see why a swear word at that time should be filtered out :|
Censorship hasn't gone too far.

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
That's a quote from a 1939 movie. Back then, 'damn' was considered a very profane word (more than fuck is considered profane today). The actor executing the line wasn't allowed to put any emphasis on the word, or else the censorship office would jump on their back.

And in today's society, you think censorship has gone too far? I know that censorship is too lenient.

Too lenient? Haha.

It would help for sure if you didn't have idiots who complained to Ofcom every time anything remotely offensive is on the TV... most of the time when that happens the person who said it didn't even mean it :|

I don't see how it went far at all. It's a debate. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

My opinions on censorship still stand. The best policy is change the channel.

No, you don't know, it is just your opinion.

The only censorship that's accepted is child porn. Pornography and bad language, like it will scar them for life.

While in some forms censorship is too strong and with these "activists" running around it can only get worse, but in other parts it's really rather lenient. I'd say in Europe sex is hardly censored at all. When I go to Poland every summer, sex is everywhere. There isn't as much in advertisements as it used to be, but it's still a lot for younger kids and isn't needed. You walk into a gas station and the magazine rack will have porn magazines the first thing on display, and public tv channels will have profanity too. They don't censor full nudity if it's in a movie, and the equivalent of fuck isn't censored either; this not being 11 PM but the middle of the day.

America is pretty much the opposite, to some extent. Any nudity whatsoever is a movie grants it an R rating, and if it's an independent movie than it's an NC-17 right away. Video games seem to get censored a lot too, since people don't have a problem with their children being exposed to violence in movies and music, but once a game that is clearly marked 17 has any sexuality or violence politicians and parents team up with fox news to try and get it banned.

The only censorship that's accepted is child porn. Pornography and bad language, like it will scar them for life.
By what do you define "child porn"? In the US any image of a minor displayed in a sexual nature is illegal, while in Europe some countries have no laws against 16 year olds in porn. Hell, Traci Lords movies are banned in america and are classified as child porn but are allowed in Europe; whose classification do you go by?

Censorship is stupid, they censor out **** in family guy even though it's on at about 11pm usually and is a 15 .

I do think to an extent censorship is needed (until before 9pm) then I don't think it should matter whats on TV.

I also watched a show quite recently which was Panorama and it was about swearing on TV. The person who runs ITV (I think) said that he swore like a chimney. Surely TV should reflect real life to an extent and he seems hypocritical for putting censorship in programmes.

If family guy wasn't censored, it'd have all the weirdos who get offended easily after it. The uncensored versions are very in your face with what a lot of people would consider offensive.
