hey guys,
anyone got nice URL name for my forum??
i wanted to put gamerztricks.forumotion.com...does anyone like this URL name?

I personally (and many other people) have a bit of a pet peeve when it comes to spelling and grammar mistakes, so I'd suggest not using the word 'gamerz' and going more with a name like "gamertricks" (or even "gamerstricks", though I believe it sounds better as just gamer).

Your site sounds better, appearance-wise, with correct spelling/grammar, at least in my opinion.

If you're going to have a subdomain it's really important to make it moderately short if you ask me, so keep that in mind. If you want your domain to be a comparable size to a .com then it needs to be short! Also do yo already have one for this forum and if so can you post the current one for comparison?

I agree with everything Fantanoice said.

Though I think you should actually think of all this before opening your forum! xP

I think he's mainly looking for a name for his forum (hence the ".forumotion.com" bit) at the moment, not so much a domain or subdomain.

But a domain is definitely something to consider. 😉

But I do agree that a small address is always nice. They're easy to remember. However, gamertricks isn't 'too' difficult to remember, considering its just two simple words. You've just got to watch out for people who may forget who your host is (aka: the forumotion extension). x3

Well, my point is comparing the following:

gamertricks.forumotion.com
gametrick.forumotion.com
gtrick.forumotion.com
gt.forumotion.com

As you see the later ones get shorter and easier to remember, though more cryptic. The last one, an acronym, is probably the best but will only not be taken on less popular services. The first is most descriptive and the later ones are more compressed. I would not blame anyone for having

gamertricks.com

but I would roll my eyes if I saw

gamertricks.thebestwebhost.org

Thought the length of the last one is exaggerated to get the point, the point still applies to forumotion.

I'd go with what Cosmic has said.

Get a piece of paper and a pen/pencil and then just brain storm anything to do with you forum as much as possible. It helps me alot when I am stuck for ideas, but remember keep it short but sweet !

o.o okie...i think of putting gamingzone.forumotion.com or gamerzone.forumotion.com which is better?? i am brain storming already...if i want to put a voting post...is it under admin discussion..because i not too sure

Could you explain that again in a bit more detail? I have no idea what you just wrote...

okie phpBB can install mods like [cash mod] i am asking wether forumotion can do the same? means can install cash mod also?and others...i am asking that because i go phpBB make forum but the domain i wanted being used...sian

Hey mate, this may be unrelivant, but in most of your posts here, there are a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes. This does not make your forum look intelegent, so you might want to slow down a little.

If you are using Firefox, feel free to use the spellchecker 😛

I think you should just go with whatever you prefer mate, also you are asking alot of questions about your forum, why not try some of it yourself, if your forum gets big, you wont be able to cope and you wont be able to ask someone else how to do this and how to do that, if someone is making a forum I think they should atleast have some idea on what their doing..

Maybe you could recruit a co-admin to help you out with setting things up? (You can request for one here: viewforum.php?f=21 ). Running forums is a tough job and there is a fairly big learning curve to get used to, but if you have somebody helping you out, it does take away some of the pressure. 🙂

I second that. Grammar is important.

Again as COsmic1 suggested keep the domain short (unless you've thought of an extremely catchy name) And if possible get a proper domain extension such as; .com; .co.uk etc etc.

Grammar is one of the vital points to building a forum, you don't have to be 'amazing' with words, just being simple and taking your time using various spellcheckers can make a world of difference.

Yep, Honestly I'd never join a forum with an admin who uses "txt spk" or even frequently substituted words for letters like "y" "u" and "r".
