Okay, I've noticed we haven't been getting a good post-to-member ratio, and I know that's not good. So what can we do to make Chatting Time better for you members? Do we need to add more forums? Change the theme, what? Please leave us your feedback and let us know! http://www.chattingtime.info/ Also, I would like a feedback on our rules, too, if you please. Those are located in the Announcements section. Clicky to read the rules

Absolution is the most overused theme. Don't get me wrong, Murder he Wrote is a fantastic phpBB designer and he did nothing wrong, but it's boring looking at a theme everyone here uses.

As our Canadian friend said above, it would be nice to see a theme that is used less often. It seems that you are also contemplating switching software. Do yourself a favor and stick to phpBB. Conversion is a hassle through which you probably don't want to put yourself. Your rules look pretty solid. I can't think of anything else you might wish to include. Your forum looks very balanced (i.e. you have done a pretty good job of utilizing most of the sections equally) so far. You may wish to start some discussions outside your "Let's Just Talk" forum to make sure the other forums keep up. It's important to maintain balance on a general discussion forum so that your board appeals to as broad an audience as possible. It also appears that your forum is going through a slow period; you may wish to do a couple post exchanges to make your forum appear a little more active (only three users have visited in the past forty-eight hours) to prospective members. You've done a brilliant job of laying out your forum; your index is very small and easy to navigate, but there is still plenty of room for discussion.

Overall, I would say that your forum could use a new theme and some more activity. Perhaps you should look through some other themes and step up your advertisement. It's awesome to see that you're sticking with your forum, though, Ashley. 🙂

Hey thanks for the compliments, Snobo! And yeah, I too am glad we're sticking around this time, despite my time limitations at the moment. I do realize that we need a new theme, and I will hopefully be looking on something like PHPBBstyles.net or whatever the sites called. But I don't know what to go for, as all forums seem to use the same themes. As for the rules, I wrote those myself, with the help of a link that Fergal posted on here one time (it had something to do with protecting your forum against unncessary lawsuits) and I kind of did them, well, kind of like here, only it's strict, but not too strict. Plus, after our recent hacking, the staff and I have also added some of our own security measures that everyone should follow when posting on forums like Chatting Time. And yes, I am sticking with PHPBB. I've debated about MyBB and decided against it with the help of a former staff member. It's a lot of work running a forum as it is, and I don't want to over do it. I agree, also, that despite the fact this is a general chat forum we're talking about, the Forum Discussion as well as other sections should be used up as well. I'll try to start some topics tonight before I go to bed.

Thank YOU! I'm sick and tired of seeing this theme. I would highly suggest getting a new theme. I'm starting to not join forums that has the Absolution theme because it's just annoying to see it.

Please see my post before this one, Coppa.

Thanks, Snobo! I've been kind of busy over the last few days, so I haven't really been able to get much done other than post (who figures), but hopefully, if and when I get more time I'll try out my luck with finding some decent skins.

Actually, the MyBB Merge System (which is their converter) can easily convert forums with a few clicks. It's nowhere near a hassle and doesn't break your forum which will be converted.

I have to say it more often, if not less often.

On your old forum, you can 301-redirect (the most proper way to redirect) your old URL to your new one for all files through .htaccess. Put this there (create the file if it doesn't exist).

Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.chattingtime.info/$1 [R=301,L]

301s are the preferred way for search engines, mind you (the reason being is that it indexes both URLs on a meta refresh and they don't like that). That also redirects all URLs that are under chattingtime.taynec8.co.uk to chattingtime.info.

I like the new theme but the banner's a bit bland.
Great job. 🙂

I forgot all about this thread. Ha! Yeah, if I recall correctly, we are looking to have a better one made. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

It's pretty good. The logo could've benefited from anti-aliased text and you could've added a new image, but it's clean, simple, and not Absolution.

1. The theme is to boring, make it something fun.

2. Add more boards, it's almost empty.

3. With there JUST being a forum it's gonna be boring, you need something like an arcade to make people wanna come.

Thanks. I know we are for sure planning to make some changes to the logo, but both my co-administrator and I are pretty busy at the moment, and I'm currently not feeling well, so we definitely won't be making such changes right away, but we will get up there soon.

1. The theme may be a little bland, but just be thankful it's not overused. We can't please everybody, and the only reason we changed the theme was because we were getting too many complaints that the Absolution theme was overused.

2. We do have subforums. I have no plans to expand the board at this time, as we are hardly getting any activity as it is. If you have suggestions for boards you'd like to see, however, please let me know. Otherwise, most of our boards are in the form of subforums, which is why it "looks" empty.

3. Not all forums have an arcade, you know. Like I said, we can't exactly please everyone. I'll have to get back to you on this one. Because if we're going to have an arcade, then we'll have to have rules. I don't have plans to make Chatting Time solely a game site, as that is not what we're about.
