I think a cheap $350 or lower Windows 8 Netbook is a better deal since at least you get a bigger screen, 320GB hard drive, keyboard, touchpad, and ports like HDMI, USB, wired and wireless internet, and VGA.

Most of the cheap Windows 8 tablet in the $315-400 price range come with a 8 inch screen, 32GB of storage, and fewer ports, and you need to buy the keyboard seperately.

I would agree that the netbook is the better deal, I feel you can do much more with a netbook than you can a tablet, plus there is the added bonus, netbooks are fairly simple to upgrade nowadays, I'm not so sure the tablets are.

I think the Surface RT is not upgradeable while a Netbook can be upgraded to 4GB or more RAM if it has 2 RAM slots, or can support RAM higher than 4GB like 8GB RAM.

A Netbook's hard drive is also easier to replace/upgrade by unscrewing a panel in the bottom.

Most Netbooks in the $350 category are pretty good, so not much upgrades are needed for basic tasks like web browsing, office work, flash games, music, and video playback, etc.

I think some Netbooks can play older games like Counter Strike, Wolfienstein, Doom, and Starcraft because they come with AMD APU which has AMD Radeon HD 6290 graphics.

Yeah, I think until tablets are easier to upgrade etc, that a netbook will still remain the obvious choice for most people.

Depends on what you're planning to do later with your new gadget, I guess. If you need it to work on files like Words and such, getting a netbook will be a better choice. But if it's only for browsing or reading files, a tablet will be enough. I think Windows 8 is better used for tablets though, with the format of the start menu, lol.

I think a netbook is still better for browsing the internet because it supports Adobe flash, Java, and other plug-ins for web browsers which are not available on non-Windows 8 tablets. Desktop websites are also more feature rich than mobile websites which seem kind of cramp sometimes. The faster performance of a netbook may also make online web browser games, and big websites load faster.

Although, tablets could be better for social networking, skype, and quickly viewing small files.

I agree Windows 8's StartMenu/screen is better for tablets unless you use a program like http://www.iobit.com/iobitstartmenu8.php which brings back the classic startmenu, and start Windows 8 into the regular desktiop.

Windows 8 App store does not have as many good tablet apps like Android's Google Play, iOS App Store, and other tablet App store, and the paid apps cost more than 99 cents in many cases, so I feel iOS, and Android are better tablet operating systems,
