So I've been thinking about why people choose certain colours for their user groups on forums. I've been making some new rank images for my up coming forum and I've gone away from the red admins and green mods. I was just curious as to why some people choose certain colours for admins/mods etc etc.
I choose purple for my Global Moderators because it stand out against the rest of my forums colors. That's the same reason I chose yellow for my V.I.P. Members. It stands out. Then I chose black for my 'Closely Watched' members. I chose this because it's bleak and dreary.
It varies with me. It all depends what the forum is about really. Sounds weird but it's how I do it. Dark colors for a promotion forum, light for general etc.
I've actually done that with my forum too, blue is my favorite colour - so the administrators group is blue 🙂 Although it does depend on the forum colours etc as well though.
Admin: Blue
Mods: Green
VIP: Yellow
Designer: A darker, different shade of green.
Donator: A darker, different shade of blue.
Registered users get a different colour as they post. It start at orange, when you get to 50 it's white, at 100 it's pink etc.
I let the first donator choose the donator colour and the designer choose the designer colour.
Melane and I chose colors based on the forum skin. We want the admin and mod colors to stand out from the registered users--the reason being, if someone wants to PM a mod or admin, it would be a pain if it was hard to tell them from other members.
Now, we try to use colors that go well with the forum. We don't like having colors that clash with the theme we are using.
On each of my forum ventures I always try to mix it up. I *never* have the regular member group blue or black, admin's are never red, mods never have been green, and so on.
