When choosing a forum name & domain, do you prefer to choose something related, ie. have a keyword related to your site, or do you prefer something unique and "out there", ie. no words related to your site at all? Explain 🙂

I usually try and make them unique but it's so hard with all them forums out there. My co-founder came up with a good one though. 🙂

 I only ever owned one forum and to come up it's name I asked my then 5 year old grandson what we should call it...his first word was mad dog......so I never even had to think about it. 🙂

Interesting concepts.

I think if I were to choose a domain, I would have it "out there" so if I didn't like it after a while, someone else could turn it into something different.

I do some of both. With my promotion site (Promotion Venue) I made it relevant while my general discussion forum is Aythr which stands for AnYTHing Random. I sometimes take letters from a bigger word and try to mix them up to make a domain name.

I like to have a keyword in my domain. I like being able to look at a domain and get an idea of what the forum, website or blog may be about based on what the keyword is. That's what I do and have done for my upcoming website. 🙂

My forums name was random.. Just a word that popped into my head.

Forum Advertiser was well about forum advertising so yeah...
The Island was a theme I was going for as relaxation and fun pops into my head when I think of islands. 😛

Strange that the one with the random name has been my fastest growing / most active forum yet. FA had large stats but it took a couple years to get there.

It's not really strange when you already had an established userbase.

Not everyone there is from the original userbase of my original forums.

It wasn't mainly because of an established userbase, it was more of a reputation among this forum and possibly a few others.

Depends on the forum, if it is a general discussion forum, i would make it random and unique
