How does your forum chose staff? Do you prefer picking a someone from FP? Maybe you chose friends? I personally prefer to chose active members of the community. Those members have already proven that they're able to stay active on my forum. I don't mind choosing someone from FP or a friend. Well.. what about you?

I prefer to find staff from my own forum or from another forum such as FP. Things I look for are members that are active, good attitude, helpful, mature, skill set (SEO, Graphic Design...etc) and good grammar is a definite plus.

I second that. It's an excellent way of choosing staff. I've noticed that attitudes can change though, they'll be great members, but once promoted, they get bossy. I've only had to deal with this once, luckily. I've generally been very lucky with my staff.

I would also recommend a trial period for the ones that go nuts once they have some power.

I will only ask those who I trust, both as people and in terms of their judgment, to join my team. Right now, I am the only person with moderator access on my board, though a friend who I know personally is helping manage the social media aspect of our launch. Many forum administrators make the mistake of hiring staff when they really don't need them!

Nice topic.

Normally I choose staff based on applications submitted by various people of a vast variety of age groups. I always assign a taster task and a demo task to see both how they like the role they submitted an app for but also to test there knowledge on that genre (packaging, developing, reviewing, moderating) I like to set moderator tests which is a two page word document that has various situations. I use various methods to judge. Spelling and grammar, proffesional status, accuracy and good knowledge and there time keeping, ensuring they hand it in in the given time limit.

I generally like to choose people that are active, mature, and that don't appear to want to be part of the staff team. People who act all fake and what not to become staff generally don't do as well of a job as people who really didn't care about being promoted... at least this is what I've observed over the years. 🙂

This is something I am trying to decide on right now. I want to have some help keeping up with one of my forums that is used to quarantine the troll members of the site. They seem to have so many arguments over posts getting rated dumb or whether they are being ignored or reported for content. It's so ridiculous. I just don't want to read it and I do have one person down there helping who reads that garbage but he has been bias toward not fully enforcing rules for one members just recently and I do need him to enforce rules even if they are his friends. Currently there really aren't that many rules so it shouldn't be that hard 😕
